The first American-made Polestar EVs are now on the road. The Swedish automaker said Friday that it has delivered the first Polestar 3 SUVs to customers in the U.S. and Canada. The Inflation Reduction Act, signed by President Biden in 2022, encourages automakers to build EVs in the U.S., providing tax credits for companies and buyers.
Polestar began producing the Polestar 3 at its Ridgeville, South Carolina plant in August. Those vehicles will serve the North American and European markets, complementing the company’s more established production in Chengdu, China.
The automaker says U.S. and Canadian Polestar 3 deliveries will ramp up in the coming weeks. You can try it out if you live near one of the automaker’s Polestar Spaces, which are brand-building fancy showrooms in or near major U.S. cities.
The Polestar 3 is billed as the company’s coming-out party, expanding the niche reach of the first two models to a more mainstream audience. Engadget’s Tim Stevens tested the EV last month and found that apart from some initial software glitches, the SUV priced at $73,400 and up is “great.”
Asimo OS was mentioned at CES 2025 with its 0 Series SUV and saloon sedan EV concepts, but the Acura RSX will be the first production vehicle to get it. According to the company, the operating system uses technology similar to its namesake robot to recognize the external environment and understand people’s intentions. It will also aid in the vehicle’s autonomous and advanced assisted driving functions.
The company’s current EVs – the Acura ZDX and Honda Prologue – are both based on the General Motors Ultium platform. The Acura RSX will be produced at Honda’s new Fayette County, Ohio factory. The plant’s final beam was laid just a year ago, and battery and RSX production is projected to begin by the end of this year. Consumers should get their hands on the new vehicle sometime in 2026.
While Honda is working hard on its EVs, its merger plan with Nissan, announced late last year, continues. The two companies have been collaborating on making EV components and software since August.
